Some things you are just supposed to think, not say.

Those are usually the things that are hardest NOT to say. Then you slip and end up like Beef in panel 11 thinking "FUCK, did I just say that?"

When I'm with friends, I like to wait for lulls in the conversation and then go "Oh fuck, did I say that out loud?!"
After they say no, I respond "Oh thank God! You guys would have killed me!"

You have decent enough friends it seems. Mine wouldn't lie to me. They would be all, "Yes, you totally said it, what are you, some kind of an idiot?"

I would have to disaggree. Beef just lacks conviction. I'm a dude who's been to a few gyms. Gym dudes WANT to hear this kinda thing. Even if it is a little gauche. You ask 'em what reps etc. they do to get there and you watch them go off on a rant. Beef don't belong 'cause he don't have the stranger-to-stranger sass.

Leo's reaction in the next strip seems to refute your thesis.

yes. i read through the arc the next day. i would make a claim that my thoughts were more applicable to real life than comic cats but that would be kinda pointless. I was wrong.

I love this strip so much. The way Beef does not belong there, and all it takes is a short while before he reveals that he cannot breathe the atmosphere in the gym. If it were not the thighs comment it would have been something else.

Is this the strip with the most awkward pause panels?

Yeah I was just reading these comments to see who else noticed the Showbiz shadow there. That's one of the stranger things I've seen in Achewood.

maybe it is said 'cos it is in a similar vein of conversation which could possibly be something a lady would say to another one, opening opportunity for other ladies to chime in with compliments while the original commenter fades into the background.

The out-of-speech-bubble laughter just doesn't do it for me. It's like laughter is resonating from their skulls as they converse.

Yes they are rockin'; that much is self-evident. Pointing this out just makes everything bad for everyone.
