Some things you are just supposed to think, not say.
macdaddyw » neu 2 years ago
Those are usually the things that are hardest NOT to say. Then you slip and end up like Beef in panel 11 thinking "FUCK, did I just say that?"
deusoma » pro 1 years ago
When I'm with friends, I like to wait for lulls in the conversation and then go "Oh fuck, did I say that out loud?!"
After they say no, I respond "Oh thank God! You guys would have killed me!"
missbee » neu 1 years ago
Man whycome none of my friends are as fun-sounding as half of assetbar posters?

This...I really want to try this.
dasilodavi » neu 1 years ago
You have decent enough friends it seems. Mine wouldn't lie to me. They would be all, "Yes, you totally said it, what are you, some kind of an idiot?"
woodenteeth » neu 1 years ago
I would have to disaggree. Beef just lacks conviction. I'm a dude who's been to a few gyms. Gym dudes WANT to hear this kinda thing. Even if it is a little gauche. You ask 'em what reps etc. they do to get there and you watch them go off on a rant. Beef don't belong 'cause he don't have the stranger-to-stranger sass.
dougthehead » neu 1 years ago
Leo's reaction in the next strip seems to refute your thesis.
woodenteeth » neu 1 years ago
yes. i read through the arc the next day. i would make a claim that my thoughts were more applicable to real life than comic cats but that would be kinda pointless. I was wrong.
mattylite » neu 1 years ago
Whoa, those last three words. Chubbied for those last three words. Not often seen on these boards, in that order.
woodenteeth » neu 1 years ago
"Was I wrong?" would be an order far more ambiguous and far more dickishly forum like.
stereo » neu 1 years ago
It reminds me of a palindrome I once heard, anyway. And for that it can't be too bad.

To wit: I madam, I made radio. So I dared, am I mad? am I?

I'd like to cite this to Spider Robinson, speaking as Nikola Tesla, in Callahan's Legacy, but I don't know my formatting. Worth a read.

Wait, somethin' don't seem right...
tragicone » neu 1 years ago
no, you were right. I go to the gym. I would love to be asked how i got to where I did.
woodenteeth » neu 9 months ago
Red, striated, with no waist or chest and cycloptic vision?
tragicone » neu 9 months ago
yeh, but look at dem thighs!
epicurus » neu 2 years ago
I love this strip so much. The way Beef does not belong there, and all it takes is a short while before he reveals that he cannot breathe the atmosphere in the gym. If it were not the thighs comment it would have been something else.
dovey » neu 2 years ago
Is this the strip with the most awkward pause panels?
morganization » neu 2 years ago
i laughed for a long time over this one

Note the silhouette behind Leo in panel 5. Remind you of anyone?
dropkickpikachu » pro 2 years ago
My mind. It is blown.
daklin » neu 2 years ago
Yeah no question that's Showbiz. I wonder if the speaker company is still on his ass.
alphagator » neu 2 years ago
not showbiz, but Mantonio from the Mile-High Club arc
twoheadedboy » pro 11 months ago
Yeah I was just reading these comments to see who else noticed the Showbiz shadow there. That's one of the stranger things I've seen in Achewood.

Man, that drive home must have been hella awkward. Ray furious while poor old Beef tryin' to figuire out what he messed up.
william » neu 2 years ago
Alt Text: Beef doesn't know the code at that place. He has committed a Dudes' Mutiny.
i_love_kate » neu 2 years ago
Mutiny?
deusoma » neu 2 years ago
I also question the use of the word in these circumstances.
i_love_kate » neu 2 years ago
Anderian, cailetshadow, your actions have been noted and news of them will be slipped underhanded to the angel who decides your worthiness on the Day of Judgment.
cpnglxynchos » neu 1 years ago
maybe it is said 'cos it is in a similar vein of conversation which could possibly be something a lady would say to another one, opening opportunity for other ladies to chime in with compliments while the original commenter fades into the background.
cpnglxynchos » neu 1 years ago
dang. commenters fading into the background is hell of a good concept for messageboards as thus.

yeeeah.

It could have been a thing but Roast Beef just don't got no sense of etiquette.
deancain29 » neu 2 years ago
why is there a shadow of Showbiz in panel 5?
phoenixultima » neu 2 years ago
Rockford-Fosgate won't pay itself off, dude.
deimosrising » neu 2 years ago
Why is there a shadow of my post 5 posts below my post
riazm » neu 2 years ago
I took up golf so that I could make small talk like this.

I feel sorry for beef. A man was misplaced, and in the end, things were said.

baryonyx » neu 2 years ago
The out-of-speech-bubble laughter just doesn't do it for me. It's like laughter is resonating from their skulls as they converse.
norsef » neu 1 years ago
I think its a hollow polite laugh. It happens all the time when two people who don't really know each other meet and make jokes.

Leo's thighs are very much the elephant(s) in the room.

Yes they are rockin'; that much is self-evident. Pointing this out just makes everything bad for everyone.
