Probably my favorite guest strip, photo finish with "You are payink for all eternities!"

"It's already ringing" killed me for five minutes straight back in the day.

he looks like a little koala.

The best part is the beginnings of the 'stach in panel 6. Also, Lyle has apparently owned that skull shirt for most of his life.

Jeffrey Rowland is also one of my Top Five Webcomics Dudes.

Good choices. But no Ryan North?
centipede_damascus » pro 2 years ago
It's hard to make the top 5.

Ryan North is in my top 10, though.

Who are the other four?

I can't believe I gave a 5 to a guest strip, but this one is great. Still, it's tough having all of these guest strips in the middle of one of the best story arcs.

Tiny hairlip lyle is adorable.

Jeffery Rowland, Ryan North, and Chris Onstand have probably saved webcomics, quality-wise.
zedpower » neu 2 years ago
It's about as much a word as "dammit" is.
professorhazard » con 2 years ago
If by that you mean they are both in the dictionary and are technically correct...
stereo » neu 1 years ago
The problem is with "damnit", "dammit" is perfectly alright.
dasilodavi » neu 2 years ago
I remember this strip vaguely. I actually thought it was by Onstad himself.
norrin » neu 2 years ago
Are you saying this hsould or should not be a five?
tekende » neu 1 years ago
As professorhazard would say, It is unclear.

Achewood is my first webcomic and my only. Some others that I've seen seem ridiculous. But based on the fact that Jeff Rowland did two of the tightest guest strips, I'll have to find out who he is. I realize that this may be a slippery slope.

panel 5, top part: the gorilla has a kind of angus young thing goin' on...
iidebaser » pro 2 years ago
I want to give this strip less than 5 because overcompensating annoys me so, but it just goes to show how amazingly fucking funny j.r. can be when he's not being painfully sophomoric.

OH MAN I THOUGHT TO MYSELF "THIS SHIT SEEMS LIKE SOMETHING ROWLAND WOULD DO/LOVE" Then I saw the alt-text and was happy as all get-out.

People... Hating on guest strips is like hating on Miles Davis' version of 'Round Midnight by Thelonious Monk, or the Beatles' version of Twist and Shout.
bozendoka » neu 1 years ago
I don't know why, but the way the gorilla is picking through his wallet instead of, I don't know, walking off with a fistful of milk money really makes this strip for me.
berami » neu 9 months ago
Rowland's Phillipe is the cutest freking thing. The little details in Lyle's (coiled matress, scattered CDs) really make this one for me.
mashisoyo » neu 5 months ago
This is my favourite guest strip - Philippe's eyes in the first panel, "Gorillas are nice animals that are like people", Young Lyle's teeth and something about Ray's stance in the last panel. These things.
