I'll notice how I feel as the cup gets heavier.

Teodor's expression is great.
geozimmdrake » neu 2 years ago
i really like ray's faces in the second to last and third to last panels. its like "no wait, dont do it man, dont do it!" and then ":o("
carlyle » neu 9 hours ago
I think he's reaching helplessly towards the water that will give him weight and then accepting the fact that good things should be in moderation.

ocarina654 » pro 1 years ago
Why this doesn't have more chubbies is beyond me.
straw » neu 1 years ago
You will see that it is, at time of this writing, only four days old. If people are so kind as to give that a chubby, it will most likely be gradually done.
stuart » neu 1 years ago
A guy on the SA forums has a much more fluid gif of this as his avatar.
sweetlips » neu 1 years ago
Man, did you really pay for an internet forum?
lennysa » neu 10 months ago
He possibly didn't. It was free when I joined.
atticusonline » neu 1 years ago
Why would I make a better one? The comic that Chris made is perfectly fine the way it is.

But no, it's cool...lame me to make yourself feel special :-)
greenkoolayd » neu 7 months ago
you lamed yourself by being a douchequeef.
atticusonline » neu 7 months ago
You mean I got chubbied 3 times and then lamed by a douchequeef.
greenkoolayd » neu 7 months ago
im probably just jealous of how intelligent you think you are.
redion » neu 5 months ago
just gave you chubby number 150. you are welcome.
everything_is_a_hat » pro 2 years ago
this is the first Achewood strip I ever saw.
j-man » pro 2 years ago
It was one of the first strips I've seen. To be honest, I was Teodor in the last panel after reading it.
hipjiverobot » neu 2 years ago
I think if I could choose the first strip i saw, this would probably be it.
jesler729 » neu 2 years ago
Seriously. It is such a perfect introduction.
epicurus » neu 2 years ago
The sad part is that someday this will be the thesis statement of a six-part philosophical treatise called 'Saint's Meditations on Humour"
davidadam » pro 2 years ago
The way the last six panels plays out is brilliant. No need for words.
rogergs » neu 2 years ago
It does take all five dialogueless panels to transition the reader from a mental state that understands what is going on, to Teodor's state.
djwhiterabbit » pro 2 years ago
as funny as it is like this, i would still love to hear the dialogue between beef and ray after the third ounce is poured.
dunkus-bolunkus » neu 2 years ago
There is no dialogue worth reporting, simply grunts, whoops and groans. A man should not have to hear that from another man.
kazad » pro 2 years ago
Well, I bet panel 9 is just Ray yelling "RAAAAAAAAD!!"
madnes » pro 2 years ago
Panel 8 is clearly "Yeah man! We doin' this!"
vondicus » neu 2 years ago
Panel 8 alone is a fairly accurate representation of Achewood in general.
darkwaffle » pro 2 years ago
If I were Teodor, I don't even know what I would think.

You look at a window long enough, you're gonna see some things.
epicurus » neu 2 years ago
This needs to be said by a hard-boiled detective, maybe play when my computer starts up?
tonyhighwind » pro 11 months ago
I like to think that long after we're dead, this will be remembered. That statement is about as true as a statement can be.
centipede_damascus » pro 2 years ago
Why is Teodor looking in the window?

do measuring jugs usually measure in ounces?
relaxing » neu 2 years ago
Yes.
zem » neu 2 years ago
'fluid ounces' are a unit of volume and here in **america** it is how we measure our liquids
dovey » neu 2 years ago
IN AMERICA FREEDOM IS MEASURED IN FLUID OUNCES

OF FREEDOM
antsama » pro 2 years ago
Ray shows signs of addiction no later than 4 ounces in. This is a new and terrifying drug that is sweeping the youth and felines. Mostly felines.
fosters » neu 2 years ago
Batman seems really concerned about this.

rexsjain » pro 2 years ago
I repeat, has anyone tried this?
keithcozz » neu 2 years ago

madrin » neu 2 years ago
dude, it's cool. you are merely crying out for your long-lost dong.
epicurus » neu 2 years ago
But, but... that's the only thing I have to contribute!
fosters » neu 2 years ago
Come on dude, that's not the ONLY thing you contribute. You also bring "I say this all the time in real life" to the table, here.
epicurus » neu 2 years ago
Can we just let that one die? Those were simpler times.
fosters » neu 2 years ago
Sorry, I'm going through these things right now and not paying a ton of attention to the time stamps. If the observation is no longer accurate then consider it cheerfully rescinded.
epicurus » neu 2 years ago
Nowadays I mostly imply that I had sex with someone and still say that I say the strip all the time but now I phrase it differently so that it doesn't get lamed out as quickly.

I mean, yeah bro, awesome.
_cheesekayke » neu 2 years ago
I don't get panels 11 and 12. Why does Roast Beef get all pissed and take Ray's cup away from him?
pitseleh » neu 2 years ago
Ray was being RUUUUDE!
godfatherofsouls » neu 2 years ago
yeah, too much weight'll work on you like a roid rage
talix18 » pro 2 years ago
I do. The comments often add so much to the strips that it would be a shame to pass them over.
saru » neu 2 years ago
Go to Gunnerkrig Court. Read some of the comments on any given strip.
Gouge out your eyes and come running to the bastion of worldly intellectualism that is Acheworld.
It's a moronic wankfest as opposed to the fascinating and valuable wankfest here, and I've seen the same thing on other comics that enable comments.
Gunnerkrig Court is a superb bit of work, so it isn't just the quality of the comic reflecting in the comments.
I'd guess it's the intellectual flair of Achewood (I feel kind of silly but kind of awesome saying this when the specific strip I'm commenting under portrays a cat having water poured into a cup on a cantilever attached to his groin, while an alive stuffed bear watches in bewilderment.
heccibiggs » neu 2 years ago
Me. I've just discovered Achewood and have read through the whole archive (well, I'm up to here now), and I tend to read most of the comments. In fact, the main reason I signed up was because the curiosity of what was containted in all the comments that had been lamed out of existence was becoming too great.
kochipoik » neu 2 years ago
It's true, I'm only yet up to here, and reading the comments often adds quite a lot to the strip - and often explains alot, too.
tourach3 » pro 2 years ago
looks like you women are a few weeks ahead of me... could be because i take my time for the most part
charchar » neu 1 years ago
A friend recommended Achewood to me (I know, passive voice), and I accidentally clicked 'discuss' three strips in. I signed up because somebody said something to which I wanted to reply. So, as I go through the archives, it is also my first time seeing the strips. I am a n00b of the worst sort.
kelsotimebomb » neu 1 years ago
I've been reading Achewood for a really long time, but this is my first sequential re-tread through the archives since the whole assetbar thing happened.\

And yeah, the comments sometimes totally make it.
i_love_kate » neu 1 years ago
That clause wasn't in the passive voice at all.
heccibiggs » neu 1 years ago
You're right, the passive voice would be "Achewood was recommened to me by a friend".

Get it together, charchar!
heccibiggs » neu 1 years ago
Wait - I_Love_Kate, who are you talking to?
i_love_kate » neu 1 years ago
The person who mentioned the passive voice, by and large. Also Freddy Fractions, but that's none of your concern.
alzuna » neu 1 years ago
I signed up to see the lamed comments too and I'm glad I'm reading it in the assetbar there are some things I miss that are revealed in the comments, and I wouldn't be able to read the blogs sequentially at all.

Also to Gunnerkrigg's credit you can't read comments unless they are from THAT day, there is no comments archive, so if you are reading through it for the first time you are spared the idiocy.
red-barchetta » neu 1 years ago
I don't even bother with the comments on the newer strips as there is almost immediately 500 of them and most of them are completely irrelevant to the strip or achewood itself.
alzuna » neu 1 years ago
Yea I've noticed that, I'm in the last year of the archives and either because I'm burned out on comments or something I just don't read them as much....
pogo » neu 1 years ago
I think the energy went out of everyone by then, having raced back through the archives for the first year, catching up to the present day, that took a lot of energy. Many of the early posters seem to have vanished. Are you looking at the new strips as they are posted?
alzuna » neu 1 years ago
Not lately, I stopped reading my bookmarked webcomics for a while so I'm behind again just after I caught up. *sadface*
hamscout » neu 1 years ago
Wait, so you've stopped reading the current strips because of the inordinate amount of comments unrelated to the strip, and you are working your way through the archives, making several comments that are unrelated to the strip?

just saying'...
hamscout » neu 1 years ago
Full Disclosure:
I am one of the folks known to contribute many non-strip-related comments in the current day, and I am wending my way through the archives once more, to read the old comments and make contributions.
Though in the current strips I often scroll past vast wastelands of posts I have no interest in, there are many many nuggets of pure gold to be mined in nearly every strip's posts. I encourage you to mine them.
pogo » neu 1 years ago
Very true, and some of us know how to use our INBOX function to actually find fresh responses to past comments.
dovey » neu 2 years ago
You do!
hughnin » neu 2 years ago
The look on Ray's face in the 12th panel is sheer gold. It looks like someone took an ice cream cone away from him, or something of that caliber/
phy » neu 2 years ago
The only thing that can really improve upon Achewood: the scientific method.
thecasbah » pro 2 years ago
Ray's facial expressions in panels eleven & twelve demonstrate exactly what it feels like to have a completely trashy orgasm taken away from you.
kochipoik » neu 2 years ago
I was contemplating laming your comment, before I realised thats probably the exact face I would/do make when a completely trashy orgasm is taken away from me.
meowmix » pro 2 years ago
Teodor's facial expression makes this strip for me.
ampkit5 » pro 2 years ago
The last 6 panals are the perfect strip all by themselves.

Two cats one cup?
achilleselbow » neu 2 years ago
Apparently at least one other person has seen this and deemed it grossly unnecessary. Besides the utter grossness of what you refer to, historicity demands that we consider this comic in the time that it was written, a better time when such things didn't exist on the planet.
