Parking your car, you said, I'm overwhelmed
You were thinking out loud, you said, I'm overwhelmed

You said, I think I'm like Tennessee Williams
I wait for the click
I wait, but it doesn't kick in

Gaaah The National! I just listened to this! I was reading this going, what is that I recognise it OH IT'S THE NATIONAL. That's the first time I've ever seen/heard anyone reference them, ever. Thank you. Thank you for this.

the frustration on beef's face is priceless

I'll bet Roast Beef has a little bump just above his elbow that he scratches and picks at when he is on the spot.
rapid_roy » neu 2 years ago
I'll admit it, I used to have a self-depreciating shirt.
fidget » pro 2 years ago
Téodor is so angry about that shirt!
centipede_damascus » pro 2 years ago
I bought this shirt for my brother, who wears it proudly.

The last shirt is priceless. That thing Beef is doing in the last panel is something we may all do when the horror that we took for granted is laid bare to us.
hollis » neu 2 years ago
The shirt design is so appropriately miscalculated, too. "Depres-
sion"
Like he can't even get that right.

I never wear tshirts, so to compensate I had these scrolling LED badges that I programmed with stuff that I would like to have on a slogan tee. I've done a couple of Achewood ones and I did all Beef's tshirts from this arc (bar the Liv Tyler one) until one day someone stopped to read the whole thing aloud in front of me.

"...Who...Sucks...Plus...I...Got...Depression...."

He just stood staring at me for a full 3 second whilst I muttered "It's uh, it's from a webcomic."

Then he walked away.

I stopped wearing the badges after this.

All i would have needed to see was a dude wearing a scrolling LCD badge and I would have assumed it had something really stupid scrolling across it. How many times did someone actually stand still and stare at your chest long enough to figure out what the hell it said, anyway?
riazm » neu 2 years ago
You would be shocked how often people would force me to stand still whilst they read it, I once missed a train because the guy who was inspecting the tickets before I got to the platform would not return my ticket until he had read the whole thing and showed his friends and told them what it said.

(This is my happening and it freaks me out! alt text Feb 4th 2005)

Unless you specifically noted that it was the day's alt text, that's an Austin Powers quote.

Pedantic film nut note:

The line is originally from Z-man in Beyond the Valley of the Dolls, quoted by Austin Powers.

and it's my favorite movie quote of all time. i don't know why. it's not poignant, funny, or clever. it just gives me a good feeling.

I want this shirt so badly but I am so scared of the ramifications of donning it and leaving my room.
shoinan » pro 2 years ago
I would buy this shirt for a friend but it might ring too true. :D
billylk » neu 2 years ago
I wore this shirt to a bar and people worshipped it.
jesler729 » neu 2 years ago
God, Roast Beef has terrible taste in shirts. What's the comic where he buys baby shirts?

stormagnet » neu 2 years ago
Seconded. I would not only hella talk to a guy wearing that, I would probably have to kiss them. Because, well, them's the rules.
gournal » neu 8 months ago
Someone wear that shirt to meet their girlfriend's parents for the first time. It's a good idea, I promise.
scriblerus » pro 2 years ago
I cleaned out my t-shirt drawer after this strip came out.
ricnine » neu 2 years ago
This strip makes me realize I have way too damn many "slogan" t-shirts and yet at the same time makes me want to buy all the Achewood ones.
dumase » neu 2 years ago
When's the last time Roast Beef wore ANY shirt?
aelindil » pro 2 years ago
Truth in advertising?
quantumcasaba » neu 2 years ago
That second shirt embodies everything that I am feeling currently.
Also, Roast Beef's reaction.
(He is loathing himself for loathing himself enough to buy that t-shirt. That is Hard.)
synnah » pro 1 years ago
I have this shirt! It's something of a talking point. Recently, I was queueing in a cafe in Berlin, and the girl behind me asked me to turn around so she could read the front.

Her: ".. plus you got depression.."
Me: "Haha, yeah."
*Pause*
Me: ".. Uh, I don't really.."
Her: "Yeah."

I need one of these shirts!

the cat in my icon picture is making the exact face that Beef is making in that last panel there. Or that's what I think
highfeverblues » neu 1 years ago
Beef should just wear T's turtleneck, he'll get all the ladies that way.
stonecrab » neu 8 months ago
Roast Beef Kazenzakis...I'm a woman who would talk to him!! I would so wear that tshirt.

I am pretty much a blend of Roast Beef and Ray Smuckles. Those guys... Also I got depression.
