I am imagining that it looks a lot like how the marines die in Starcraft.

But Phillipe, Petunia will be dead soon anyways.

Why does Ultra Peanut have trouble with L's? Isn't that a Japanese problem, not Chinese?

HIS WIFE IS CHINESE AND SHE WROTE THIS STRIP.

5 for the alt text.

I repeat both lines from the final panel on a frequent basis. But even established Achewood readers invariably give me funny looks when I do so.
That's the part when I become disappointed in them.

Every time I see Philippe begin to descend into "the fear," I cannot help but laugh until I bgin to cry. It is beautiful.

Thou shalt hate the playa, regardless of his game.

Phillipe's guilt ballons are hilarious, because we all have them, but seldom admit it.
pzukowski » neu2 years ago
"Balloons" of course.

INCREDIBLE DEATH by ASTONISHING MALADY

I used to have a roommate from Hong Kong. The "Yes ok uh huh ok yes bye" is a common Chinese thing.

My favorite strip. :)
akadriver » pro1 years ago
This strip answers a question that nagged me all along... the pronunciation of Philippe's name. I wasn't sure if it was all French "fee-leep" or Spanish "fee-lee-pay." Unless Ultra Peanut is pronouncing it wrong... well, more wrong than just the r/l thing... now I know.
laserblade » neu1 years ago
Not to be an Internet pedant, but in Spanish it's spelled "Felipe" and pronounced "feh-lee-pay", so you didn't have to wonder.
akadriver » neu1 years ago
From one internet pedant to another, I thank you.
laserblade » neu1 years ago
Yeah see, where English and French have etymological spelling, where "ph" designates a Greek phi, Spanish has almost entirely phonetic spelling, so you'll only see Fs there.
gigs » neu1 years ago
I still can't wrap my head around 'fee-leep'. It just sounds so wrong after hearing it as 'feh-lee-pay' for so long.
If there is ever an Achewood cartoon, my head will go crazy whenever Philippe appears.

I love the way Phillipe always rushes everywhere.

More penalties need to be "Incredible death."

His wife, his Chinese wife, his wee Chinese wife.

I love how Phillipe's thoughts are accented by his carefully chosen fonts.

THAT IS TERRIBLE, but at least your death will be INCREDIBLE

I had to say "Urrtra" out loud about six times. I HAD to.
