I wonder if this was a subconscious reference to Mr. Show's "Wicked Sceptre" sketch.
fishingblues » pro 2 years ago
Onstad himself in an interview said that Mr. Show is like an apogee of comedy so I'm sure that this was a 'wicked' (see what I did there?) send up of the magic of Bob and David.
twotonturkey » pro 2 years ago
I understood what you did there.
djwhiterabbit » pro 2 years ago
heh, you beat me to the remark - i just rewatched the way too hilarious "wyckyd sceptre" episode of mr. show and had the same revelation. and i see from the comment below that chris onstad has confirmed his appreciation of the show...

excellent!

If you write a comedy skit you're gonna have some rat feces in there.

I'd like to point out that Ray refers to "back in his party days". Why should we think these AREN'T Ray's party days? I mean...two arcs of this strip are ray throwing/attending parties. All he does is leisure.
featurelessvoid » pro 2 years ago
Now that he charges all parties to his record label, his leisure is considered business. It's a tax thing.
shoinan » neu 2 years ago
If Ray doesn't think these days are his party days, his party days must've been dayum good.

Sometimes he'd come home with Dolphin burns over 80% of his chest.

Little Nephew's face in the second to last frame is a study in quaking revulsion.

I think that's the face Bambi made when his mother got shot by Man.

It makes me sad that no one was able to correctly identify this. Truly they are the Kings of Metal.

Are those the guys from Manowar?

It's gotta be Manowar, they are the gayest. Which doesn't mean they can't rock.

I wonder if Hyddyn Sceptyre is straight up Blind Guardian type shit. I could see myself getting mad rutty with some extremely hippie chick to that music.
rowboat » pro 1 years ago
Yes. Manowar. But don't be fooled - the dudes are as straight as the day is long.
tekende » neu 1 years ago
Well, I'm just gonna sit here thinkin' they're gay and you'll be wrong.
zapatos » neu 1 years ago
If it is winter, they are as straight as usual.

Whenever a girl will let me (not often), I put on Hail and Kill during love making. It gets the sweat hell runnin' down my back. Oh yes.
rowboat » pro 1 years ago
As a man speaking as a lady, I would never fuck you to Manowar.
greenkoolayd » neu 9 months ago
is the opening track 'gay bar'?
zapatos » neu 8 months ago
No, it's Big Burger.

Because I need them to check in the appropriate box, for a boy girl *funk*
daedala_x » neu 1 years ago
if i wanted to get it on, as soon as you started playing manowar i would just be all oh dang what was i thinking i don't want to be in this crummy room trading touches with a gross fellow, i want to be part of that HALL.

unless you were playing pleasure slave, that would be cool.

it's kind of unhealthy just how much i love manowar. if i ever have a wedding, we will play brothers of metal as i walk down the aisle, each row all stands up and throws a fist in the air as i pass, tears are streaming down my face i am so happy.
tekende » pro 1 years ago
Chubbied for "trading touches."
zapatos » neu 1 years ago
You will be the most beautiful bride there ever was, they will throw their fist into the air as Legion.
dracer2 » neu 1 years ago
But what are you going to play for the sweet waltz with your father?
shutup_shutup » neu 9 months ago
"extremely hippie chick" meaning she's a total hippie or she has extreme hips? Both are good.

Ray is so damned evil sometimes it burns my toe-hairs.

if all parents described sex to their children in this fashion, the human race would disappear in a generation.
mattylite » pro 2 years ago
Ray referring to himself as "old Uncle Ray" to get all up in LN's mind and really paint the picture there is the sort of subtlety that makes one want to leave a comment about it.
