Todd is an excellent Carla.
fallow_fields » pro 2 years ago
lol, beef's laugh is the best. Even at his most amused, a simple 'hee hee' is all that comes out
saint » neu 2 years ago
his eyes look like one Pacman chasing another. Cute.
brokeaccount » neu 10 months ago
The one on the left is burping.
redmange » neu 6 months ago
Because he has just eaten the wife of the pacman on the right.

THE PLOT THICKENS
puguglypress » neu 6 months ago
The right pacman's wife was a ghost, and even in our supposedly enlightened age interracial relationships are still frowned upon by some
cracklewater » neu 1 months ago
He's so tickled that he gets some punctuation in his laugh.
catachresis » neu 2 years ago
Mr. Bear is Frasier.
mira » pro 2 years ago
Totally. His is the only voice I can imagine, because I am imagining it as Frasier's.
catachresis » neu 2 years ago
I have slightly revised my opinion, in that I can't decide between Kelsey Grammer and Stephen Fry for Cornelius' voice. So difficult.
zeroasalimit » neu 2 years ago
Kelsey Grammer. If he dies, then Fry. Also, although Frasier is the classiest fictional character on television, Mr. Bear has him outclassed.
spinynorman » neu 2 years ago
Stephen Fry is considerably more English than Kelsey Grammer, whose characters are pretty pompous but whose actual life is like a coked-up trainwreck, and the train was filled with Playboy Bunnies.

As Stephen Fry played Jeeves himself from Wodehouse, and Cornelius seems to be largely inspired by Wodehouse, the match is already made. I mean, Fry himself said his fucking vocal chords are practically made of tweed.
zeroasalimit » neu 2 years ago
Damn man, way to lay the logic down. I like Wodehouse aswell. I must capitulate to your point of view.
danbicker » neu 9 months ago
I am late but I feel it must be said: David McCallum. He is the true voice of Cornelius Bear.
stuart » neu 5 months ago
Anthony Stewart Head should be Mr. Bear. Read the October 2008 strips and watch Buffy Season 4.
lolsworth » pro 9 months ago
Stephen Fry is not a Republican so he wins the tiebreak.
squi » neu 2 years ago
Ugh, no. The Frasier character is way too full of himself, and I would hate to see any of that bleed into Mr. Bear through Kelsey Grammer's voice. James Earl Jones all the way.
ford » neu 1 years ago
It is weird that you would go from Kelsey Grammer to James Earl Jones. I can't even imagine James Earl (awesome though he may be) speaking in a British accent. But wouldn't it be great, if in this fictional animated series James Earl Jones came on as a bunch of small-part characters? Imagine the voice of, say, Robert Johnson, or the guy on the phone that buys Ray's soul for a piano.
theguitarhero » neu 11 months ago
the guy on the phone that buys Ray's soul for a piano.
You mean, THE DEVIL?
mystkmanat » neu 10 months ago
RACIST.
cracklewater » neu 2 months ago
I always thought Darth Vader had something of a British accent underneath all the synth and wheezing.
ford » neu 1 years ago
Complaining about some lames is the best way to add to the pile.
lawdog » neu 2 years ago
Kelsey to this day studies old Achewoods in the hopes of being half as classy as Cornelius. I think David Bowie should get the honors.
catachresis » neu 2 years ago
I think David Bowie would do a good job as RLS AKA TMWTBOHH*. Imagine this strip, with David Bowie's voice, all totally not being able to do the southern accent, but the amazing synth music in the background makes it amazing. Possibly.

*Is this an officially sanctioned acronym?
alphagator » neu 2 years ago
man before I realized that was supposed to be an acronym I thought it was Lovecraftian
spinynorman » neu 2 years ago
I thought he was mocking the debate by filling in gibberish in place of a reference. It was pretty hilarious when I read it, and then when I finished it it got even funnier.
hassanoleary » neu 2 years ago
I bet Willem Dafoe would make a good Ramses/Rodney.
zeal » neu 2 years ago
No. The only man who can do justice to Ramses Luther is Powers Boothe.
kelsotimebomb » neu 2 years ago
"Little girl, I'm going to fill your mouth with spiders."

GOD yes.
tonyhighwind » neu 1 years ago
Neither of you have seen Boondock Saints, have you?
tekende » neu 1 years ago
Michael Caine maybe. Not Bowie. Much as I love Bowie, his speaking voice is a little too effete for Ramses.
farqussus » neu 1 years ago
I can't imagine Cornelius from London.

"Ere. Just a momentary diversion. on the road. to the grave, my young china."

No I think not.
tekende » neu 1 years ago
Naw, I'm thinking, like, Secondhand Lions Michael Caine. Trying admirably but ultimately failing at a Southern US accent, you know?
tekende » neu 1 years ago
For Ramses, not Cornelius, fyi.
jhunt » neu 2 years ago
Those Pac-Man eyes squick me out something fierce.
saurkraus » pro 2 years ago
I think that's a reference to the really old-school Mickey Mouse drawings.
closefriend » pro 2 years ago
I was going to talk about how Beef in this strip should be called "Steamboat Beefy," but that opens up a whole new can of worms.
relaxing » neu 2 years ago
Compare/contrast the "Stoned Lightning" eyes?
centipede_damascus » pro 2 years ago
Almost the best Achewood ever.
rotating-dog » pro 2 years ago
Well it comes damn close. An obvious favourite, you might notice.
wolfslice » pro 2 years ago
haha, this one's gotta be in my top 3
untilyouaresonude » pro 2 years ago
The Woody hair is amazing. Harrelson should be notified, if he doesn't read already.
ghostd » neu 2 years ago
Oh, hee hee hee!
delzhand » neu 2 years ago
I think this last panel should replace the current graphic for rating a comic a 5.
zem » neu 2 years ago
yeah actually

and replace 4 with the current 5
stuart » neu 2 years ago
ideally you would get like 20 of these
[IMGS OFF]
thegrapist » pro 2 years ago
oh my goodness!
sherwood » neu 2 years ago
Now i finally know what to use that set of Mii eyes for.

Oh, hee hee.
thicker » pro 2 years ago
Beef's eyes in the last panel are henceforth to be known as "Davide" eyes (see 04/23/2007). Or vice-versa, you know, whatever.
slanger » neu 2 years ago
Yeah! Glazed with glee.
hexjumper » neu 2 years ago
This is the other moment that takes Roast Beef from being one-note to being a more rounded character - his friends pull him out of an awesome depression and into being a part of the group. It's also the first time that we see Ray using his money - or, in this case, connections - to cheer up Roast Beef.

Also, Phillipe makes an awesome Woody.
woodenteeth » neu 2 years ago
dude. really. oh man. that totally reads like a wrong-end-of-a-three-coffee-day post.
everything_is_a_hat » neu 2 years ago
I don't think Beef has ever been so happy.
phthoggos » pro 2 years ago
5'd for the last panel alone.
deancain29 » pro 2 years ago
Todd owns this version of Carla - he freakin owns it.
epicurus » pro 2 years ago
Oh, hee hee hee!
Oh, Hee hee!
qatipay » neu 2 years ago
is this both the nicest Todd's ever been and the happiest Beef's ever been??
peterjoel » neu 2 years ago
if Todd was a woman, he would actually be Carla
tinhand » neu 2 years ago
That last panel is actually LMAO funny. He seems to go completely hysterical. Definitely 5/5.
atticusonline » neu 2 years ago
wakka wakka wakka
prolefeed5 » pro 2 years ago
The fact that Cornelius, Todd and Phillipe are assigned so perfectly to Cheers characters is almost kind of creepy... (not so sure about Teodore, but he's a complicated character).
tripleg » pro 1 years ago
ideally, ray would be sam, but then ray couldn't give the tour
trollcollins » neu 2 years ago
The final panel is a horrifying rictus when viewed in isolation (i.e. out of context).
mattylite » pro 2 years ago
You mean a horrifying rictus that I... ...Boned?

trollcollins » neu 2 years ago
I mean yeah sure if you are into eyeballs that have cleaved from the intense pressure of joy being felt. Go to town with that.
mattylite » pro 2 years ago
You mean the town that I... ...Boned?
prolefeed5 » pro 1 years ago
I see what you did there...
milkpants » neu 2 years ago
i never liked cheers 'til i liked this strip
gopacapulco » neu 2 years ago
This is the funniest strip i've read so far
gethen » pro 2 years ago
Is this the first time we see Cornelius out of his robe and in one of his delightful suits?
johnnyc » neu 2 years ago
I got a "The Dude Is From Circumstances" tee this Christmas and reacted exactly like Beef in the last panel.
filossoapeyed » pro 2 years ago
In the almost seven years this strip has been running, you will never see a happier Beef than a Beef with Cheers on the brain. So what if he's experienced heaven? So what if he's marrying his dream girl? Cheers is his true love.
eiv » neu 2 years ago
my vote was #666

pzukowski » pro 2 years ago
Beef's grinning glee gives me hope.
octafish » neu 1 years ago
Pffft, Cheers is not Cheers without Norm and Cliffy, oh Ratzenburger, the intricate falsehoods you weaved remind me of simpler times.
intelligentblue » neu 1 years ago
the happiest you will ever see Roast Beef

Beef looks like he's going to explode with joy.

I love it just for that look on Roast Beef's face at the end.
scorpio_nadir » pro 1 years ago
Beef's eyes in the last pane showing the love he never thought he'd get- priceless.
applebed » neu 1 years ago
Beef's eyes frighten me here.
rhymebomb » neu 1 years ago
This is the best Achewood.
wallabeechamp » neu 1 years ago
See? Ray truly cares for Roast Beef, he just never knows how to show it!
carlyle » neu 11 months ago
Five for last panel.
fakedaisies » pro 10 months ago
Yes. Between that and "Carla" asking to be hit with a folding chair in lieu of an abortion, this is probably my favorite strip.
