Ah, to be a toy otter...
grog » neu 2 years ago
They really sugar coat the part about the stingrays on that tour.
unquotable » neu 2 years ago
Ah to be in school and go on field trips to that place every year... man I miss that.
songbirdspectre » pro 2 years ago
no one understands how much me and philippe have in common.
notself » pro 2 years ago
I tried to go there but it was too expensive.
hotmethodist » pro 1 years ago
I touched a manta ray there. it was awesome in only a way that listening to a self-guided tour could make me remember.

We've spared no expense.

This is the kinda stuff my kid brother does.
billyamericana » pro 2 years ago
Too bad it's the Super-Muffled French edition.
cashprizes » pro 2 years ago
i like to think right at that moment the tape tells him to continue on upstairs.
mortshire » pro 2 years ago
that philippe's an awesome kid. the ideal.
jokercross » neu 2 years ago
In fairness, it's a really good tour.
a_dude » pro 2 years ago
he is only 5.
idsyen » neu 1 years ago
At this point I think he's still intended to be retarded, which changes the tone of the humor in this strip pretty drastically.
daedala_x » neu 1 years ago
Philippe was never intended to be retarded! Granted, all 5 year olds are kind of retarded, though it might actually be better if they were fully retarded because at least retards don't cry or have sense enough to ask you for stuff.
idsyen » pro 1 years ago
I have to disagree. If you look at the original description, it describes him as a retarded otter, and I think you can tell that's what Onstad had in mind for the first run of strips. It's never explicit, but the most obvious one is when it's gross when he opens his mouth. After a handful of strips the characterization shifts and he seems much more like a little kid. I think Onstad changed his mind about what he wanted to do with the character.
em2 » neu 1 years ago
I think you have a good point here. The truly funny/sad thing is that if you Google "Achewood," the site's description is still "A cartoon of modern life as lived by a retarded otter, an alcoholic tiger, and two bears."

Philippe just wanted to extend Shark Week.
jeannetteandre » pro 2 years ago
I don't blame him. It's worth it.

That Aquarium is my favorite aquarium. I admire the little dude's taste.
smallgods » neu 2 years ago
Yes...Hence, the irony.
featurelessvoid » neu 2 years ago
Better still, it's a tour of a place where he would be an exhibit.
beefsmipeep » neu 1 years ago
Maybe he likes to listen to the part about the otters - would that be so wrong?

He's obviously in a state of (perpetual?) bliss
spectre » pro 2 years ago
The shrooms are still working.
envika » neu 2 years ago
Poor deprived Philippe...
bhlaab » neu 2 years ago
it looks like philippe has too many arms
gormster » neu 2 years ago
He's an otter.
sankster » neu 2 years ago
That would be because of the wire connecting the headphones to the tape player.
bhlaab » neu 1 years ago
yes i know but it still looks like he has too many!
howl » neu 1 years ago
I know, right?
zapatos » neu 1 years ago
It looks like he is dancing... likely to a monotone voice.
clever-nickname » neu 2 years ago
man, I haven't been to the Monterey Bay Aquarium in years.
nerdjcrudbird » neu 2 years ago
this is highly underrated
juanclaudius » neu 2 years ago
Is it sad that I'd kill to have that tape?
mindbnder » neu 2 years ago
The only thing better than listening to tapes like this by yourself is listening to them when you are sitting in the mall. The descriptions tend to match up perfectly.
wonelove » pro 1 years ago
I am so doing this one day
tibia » neu 6 months ago
I have done this. Several times.
ferryboy » pro 2 years ago
Whats's awesome is that the otters are my favorite part of that whole damn place. awesome.
red-barchetta » neu 1 years ago
I just noticed that the bears ears are back to the older style. Perhaps it was awhile before Chris stabilized his drawing technique?
fearless_tulips » pro 1 years ago
Dude...I effing love him. One day, I will abduct him, and he will not even know to be scared. And he will be MINE!!!
sparhawk » pro 1 years ago
You just know those aren't real headphones either: http://achewood.com/index.php?date=05032006

Is it safe for an otter to visit an aquarium?
rowen » neu 1 years ago
Now is he pretending he actually sees the animals discribed? Or when it comes to the part about "if you look to your left, you can see the penguins at play" does he eagerly turn to the wall, only to be brutally disappointed?
theguitarhero » neu 1 years ago
I'm surprised that, with so many Achewood-loving musicians out there, this hasn't become an album name.

This does NOT give you free license to do so. I call dibs.
howl » neu 1 years ago
No. No. I had this idea. I had it, completely independent of you and I reserve the right to use it as long as it hasn't been taken already.
theguitarhero » neu 1 years ago
but I called dibs 1 months ago!

We can coexist with this idea, this is OK.
theguitarhero » neu 1 years ago
I am OK with this.
howl » neu 1 years ago
Yes. That is alright. That is cool.

Btw I hit chubby when I meant reply. Oh well, enjoy your chubby.
theguitarhero » neu 11 months ago
Dammit I thought someone thought what I said was funny.
maldraedior » con 11 months ago
It always takes a moment to realize Phillipe does not have two arms on one side
srikamaraja » pro 11 months ago
...I would listen to that tape. All the way through. In much the same manner, save for my external ears.
atticusonline » neu 9 months ago
Philippe is staring at me.
