Philippe can be so terrifying.
drskradley » neu 2 years ago
He himself can't, because he's innocent and five. But it's for that fact that it's always him that's in the messed up situations. If Freddy Krueger were being terrorised by Michael Myers, nobody would be scared.
pyro_ike » pro 2 years ago
Well yeah, if I was five I'd be terrified in most of those situations... But that's the joy of Phillipe- he does it for you!

He is a Special Boy.
scorpio_nadir » neu 1 years ago
It looks like his fuzzy little brain is popping out.

I would scream and scuttle away, too.

I would have rated this strip higher if it didn't completely freak me out.
farqussus » neu 2 years ago
nobody cares about what you think either, or me, yet hundreds of us insist on posting our opinions and reading those of others. The singing cartoon girl disagrees with you. This is not lame.

I propose "Fuck your trumpet" be a new invective.

Holy crap someone likes something that you don't! They must be below you.

Part of the appeal of Achewood is that it can appeal to more than one sensibility, even at the same time. Yes, some of the best material in Achewood is dark and badass. Some of the best material in Achewood is sweet, too. The main difference between the Achewood version of "sweet" and the Family Circus version is that the Family Circus version is forced, while the Achewood version is earned.

My favorite Teodor moment.
epicurus » neu 2 years ago
This one caught me totally off-guard with how hilarious it is.
chaesar » pro 2 years ago
This strip (mostly Teodor's reaction) is "laugh loud enough to get you fired" funny.
gmagnido » pro 2 years ago
All the tough guys use Paul Mitchell. ALL of them.
afkpuz » neu 2 years ago
I use Paul Mitchell and can verify this.

Tea Tree Mint Shampoo baby. It BURNS the sexy right into your scalp.
meganasty » neu 6 months ago
You use a shampoo that has 3 plants in its name. I would check with a doctor to make sure your testicles aren't actually prolapsed ovaries.
phoenixultima » pro 2 years ago
It's all about the last panel. Hairglasses!
djwhiterabbit » pro 2 years ago
i never knew phillipe could be so hell of disturbing.

this strip would be ten times more horrifying in color.

...

(i may or may not be correct about this.)

Bruce Willis needs no shaver to get that effect.

that was a strange reaction.

deusoma » con 2 years ago
I understand this strip, but I don't get why Phillipe's haircut scaring Teodor is supposed to be funny.
dropkickpikachu » con 2 years ago
How is it NOT supposed to be funny?
zem » neu 2 years ago
Illegal ghost bikes??? What?? Huh? He's standing on it???
tinhand » neu 2 years ago
It's funny because Teodor reacts in such an extreme way, as if a shaven Philippe is basically the sum of all his fears personified. As if he then has to spend the next week in therapy before he can come back to the strip in time for Rays toilet party.
deusoma » pro 2 years ago
Ohhhhhhh. Now I'm imagining Teodor reliving some horrible childhood incident involving a shaven otter, and it's retroactively hilarious.
tekende » neu 1 years ago
Whatever works for you.
deusoma » pro 1 years ago
And for the record, while this was just nonsensical, illegal ghost bikes straight-up sucked ass.

I've laughed out loud at Achewood before, but this is the first time that I laughed so loud I couldn't breathe.
killingthejay » neu 2 years ago
philippe looks so tough teodor scuffles away in intimidated horror. this is why he felt he should change to something less scary, like harry potter.

christ, philippe is mega nasty here.
dallovich » pro 2 years ago
I never noticed before but Téodor's pants are pretty silly.
charchar » neu 2 years ago
I picture them as being like violet brocade, like King Lear would wear.

Teodor's face and exactly repeated screams totally make this one.

It's like that scene at the end of Hannibal, with ray Liotta's exposed brain. Ray Liotta is kind of a tough guy too, so the rule still stands.
greenkoolayd » neu 8 months ago
thats hard to watch, dude.
c_dizzle » pro 2 years ago
Téodore's reaction makes bearable the horror of Philippes buzz-cut.

Isn't this one of the few times we actually see Teodor's bottom lip?

I want so badly to see Teodor's reaction to Philippe Potter there, considering what just being Philippe Willis did to him.

I wonder who's hair products that is? I too use the Paul Mitchell leave in conditioner.
saulbellow » neu 1 years ago
The inspiration for the very small counter with nothing but Paul Mitchell, a horse-hair brush and a razor on it could only have come from a recent barbershop visit by Mr. Onstad.

No such small hair-product counter exists in any home. Not in any home in this country, anyway.*

*By "this country," I mean America, home of the Internet since 1977. America: Where we put commas inside quotation marks, even if we are not quoting the comma. America: Try it today!

there is no instance of the word fun in the bible. thats why christians are opposed to fun.
mangtastic » neu 1 years ago
You KNOW that Teodor is terrified because he just smoked a few bowls and is all paranoid. That, coupled with Phillipe, would freak ANYONE out.
mangecoeur » neu 1 years ago
God I can't stop laughing.

A shaved baby otter shouldn't look so phallic. 'Specially not when he's five.

anabanananana » neu 1 years ago
Anyone else impressed at Philippe's skills with the razor to make the glasses? I have used one of those before, and instead of a haircut someone ended up with a shaved head.
st-elmos_fire » neu 1 years ago
Man so close to perfect, Teodor's reaction took a second for me to realise it but when I did it was hilarious, however it seems to me that if it ended there without the Harry Potter part it would be a funnier strip, 5 instead of 4
hendetta » neu 1 years ago
Next, Philippe will trim the glasses and be a Ninja Turtle.
